Here at Rugby School Sports Centre we host a number of training courses whether its lifesaving or teaching people the essential life skill of swimming.

Become a lifeguard

The Royal Life Saving Society’s NPLQ is the most awarded lifeguard qualification in the UK and Ireland and is also internationally recognised.

Every candidate attending a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) course must be 16 years old or above at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to:

  • Jump/dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits

Lifeguard competency training

We hold monthly competency training for National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. If you need to top up your training hours and you are not employed here at the centre, you are more than welcome to attend our training sessions for a small fee.

We typically run these the last Wednesday of every month 20.00-22.00, however please contact us to confirm the date.

Become a swim teacher

Becoming a swimming teacher can be an incredibly rewarding career, teaching an essential life skill to others.

You’ll need your Level 2 qualification and must be 16 years or older to qualify.
